Law Personal Statement
法律专业个人陈述
I have had an interest in law for a few years now, which stems back to my English G.C.S.E course in which I read "To Kill A Mockingbird". The character of Atticus in the book was a true inspiration, his determination to see justice prevail was truly moving. My visits to the crown and magistrate courts augmented my interest in law further
I was able to see what happens in court. This was an advantage for me as the prospect of arguing in court has always intrigued me. I am particularly interested in civil rights. I see this aspect of law as one of the most interesting as well as the most important. After acquiring a degree I hope to pursue a career as a barrister, as it will permit me to defend and prosecute cases in the higher courts. I believe that by pursuing a career in law I will be able to accomplish one of my aims in life, which is to help people. I believe I am well suited to a law degree and a career in law as I have well developed analytical skills that I have been able to improve through my A level courses. For example, English Language required thorough analysis of various sources such as transcripts, book extracts etc. Modern History has also been an advantage, as we have spent a good part of the AS year learning about early twentieth century politics in Britain, and changes in the law e.g. the introduction of national insurance
Through this degree I hope to further improve my communication skills and my powers of argument
At both college and school I have been given many positions of responsibility - form captain, vice captain and prefect, which have helped me develop into a more mature and astute person. My position as council representative at both school and college have assisted me in developing my communication and presentation abilities, as I have had to present the opinions and suggestions of my form to the school council. I have also helped organise many charity events such as discos, cake sales and entertainments. I also sponsored a child in Vietnam for four years, which reflects my desire to help people, and has helped me to learn about a different culture. At school I was part of the hockey and the rounders team for the majority of the five years, which is an advantage as it reflects my ability to work successfully in a team
I have travelled to many places in and around the U.K. for example, I have visited Manchester, London, Huddersfield, Edinburgh etc. I have also travelled abroad many times to Pakistan. I enjoy travelling as it gives me the opportunity to meet new people. Travelling abroad interests me, as it will help me to learn about different cultures. I also enjoy reading; my favourite genre is horror, especially the works of Stephen King. Outside college I am a member of a gym
My work experience at ITNET in Birmingham was valuable. I was able to improve my computer literacy skills, as I was given tasks such as word processing and the opportunity to design the company's security badges. As well as working in a group, I also had to work independently at times, which allowed me to use my initiative
I feel that my academic and personal qualities and experience equip me for a degree in this subject.
